Jakub and Matej Frak perfromance using their sound sculpture "Air Conditions: for Vertical Strings and Horizontal Organs" During 13. SURVIVAL Art Review in Wrocław (
www.survival.art.pl/,92).
Drawing on their experience of the Noise Wall project, the Frank
brothers have attempted to turn the ventilation system and the
resonating canteen into a gigantic string instrument. The instru-
ment is constructed inside a long corridor, which invites the visi-
tors to actively participate in sonifying the construction, using it
to make music and thus entering the very process of creating an
“instrumental theatre” as Mauricio Kagel perceived it. The listen-
ers gathered inside the canteen cannot see the actions whose
sounds are multiplied by the natural echo of the empty room.
Bazując na doświadczeniach wyniesionych z projektu Ściana
szumów, bracia Frank podjęli się próby wykorzystania sieci wen-
tylacyjnej i rezonansu stołówki w dawnych Koszarach Oddziałów
Prewencji Policji do konstrukcji ogromnego instrumentu stru-
nowego. Długi korytarz, wzdłuż którego przebiega konstrukcja
instrumentu, jest zaproszeniem publiczności do czynnego udziału
w procesie udźwiękowienia konstrukcji i wykonywania na nim
muzyki, wejścia w sam proces powstawania „teatru instrumental-
nego” wg Mauricia Kagela. Słuchacze zgromadzeni w przestrzeni
stołówki nie widzą akcji scenicznej, której odgłosy są zwielokrot-
nianie przez naturalny pogłos pustego pomieszczenia.
