„Śpiewając Warmię” to próba zmierzenia się z brakiem rodzinnych archiwów lub brakiem dostępu do nich, niepamięcią i niemożnością nawiązania relacji z miejscem urodzenia. Zamiast rodzinnych opowieści, pieśni i wspomnień, materiałem stają się zdjęcia ulubionych miejsc z okolicy Olsztyna, a konkretnie fotografie Lasu Miejskiego. Zosia Hołubowska podąża tropem krytycznej fabulacji Saidiyi Hartman czyli przeobrażenia historii, aby przeciwstawić się uprzedmiotowieniu, upodleniu i przemocy przedstawień historycznych i archiwów. Pieśń o Warmii wyraża zarówno ból wygnania jak i posępne piękno porzuconego krajobrazu: powolny nurt rzeki muskany gałęziami drzew. Proces ten dotyczy krajobrazu, a właściwie jego udźwiękowienia, które oddaje głos duchom, które go zamieszkują. Zakola Łyny stają się sygnałami kontrolującymi syntezatory. Układ gałęzi drzew przetłumaczony jest na melodię, a plamy światła na falach rzeki to harmoniczne spektrum dźwięków przypominających szepty i zawodzenia zjaw. Ten utwór to kolejny przykład twórczej pracy z archiwami, zgodnie z podejściem „unoing archiwes” - ich odczyniania i dekonstrukcji. W słowach artystki: „Jak opowiedzieć historię o byciu z miejsca, z którego się właściwie nie pochodzi? Życie obu moich babć naznaczyła przeprowadzka na drugi koniec ich świata. I tak oto urodziłam się na Warmii. Miejscu, które wielokrotnie wyrywało swoją historię z korzeniami. Od Prusów aż do Warmiaków, Niemców i Żydów, do przymusowego przesiedlenia Rusinów i Ukraińców w akcji Wisła i repatriacji Kresowiaków. Śpiewając Warmię to wymyślenie, wyśpiewanie mojej relacji do tego miejsca.”
W procesie sonifikacji zdjęć Zosia Hołubowska wykorzystała programy: IANNIX programując własne intrumenty i efekty za pomocą M4L i OSC, SuperCollider or Photosounder.

Zosia Hołubowska – jest artystką dźwiękową, producentką, performerką i kuratorką mieszkającą i pracującą w Wiedniu, gdzie kończy doktorat na Akademii Sztuk Pięknych z zakresu badań artystycznych. Jej badania dotyczą eksperymentalnej metodologii w sztuce dźwiękowej. Hołubowska tworzy instalacje dźwiękowe, słuchowiska, muzykę do spektakli teatralnych i performensy. Pracuje z etnomuzykologicznymi archiwami i stara się znaleźć momenty, które można „squeerować”. Jej prace odczytują czy też odsłuchują przeszłość i animują elementy wiedzy o magii, demonologii czy ziołolecznictwie za pomocą muzyki elektronicznej, sztuki nowych mediów, programowania czy pracy z eksperymentalnymi programami do komponowania. Jej prace pokazywane były między innymi w Research Pavilion podczas Biennale w Wenecji (2017), MUMOK (Austria), Guggenheim Muzeum (Hiszpania). Współpracuje z teatrem BRUT we Wiedniu, prowadzi comiesięczną audycję w Radio Kapitał. W 2015 założyła Sounds Queer? Latające laboratorium syntezatorów, gdzie prowadzi warsztaty na tematmuzyki elektronicznej. Należy również do kolektywu Oramics.

"Singing Warmia" is an attempt to deal with the lack of family archives or the lack of access to them, oblivion, and inability to establish a relationship with the place of birth. Instead of family stories, songs, and memories, the material consists of photos of favorite places in the vicinity of Olsztyn, namely photographs of the City Forest. Zosia Hołubowska follows Saidiya Hartman's critical fabulation, that is, the transformation of history that counters the objectification, degradation, and violence of historical representations and archives. Singing Warmia expresses both the pain of exile and the gloomy beauty of the abandoned landscape: the slow current of the river grazed by tree branches.

This process concerns the landscape, or rather its sound, and how to invite the voices of the spirits of this landscape that inhabit it. The bends of the Łyna become the signals controlling the synthesizers. The arrangement of tree branches is translated into a melody, and the splashes of light on the waves of the river constitute a harmonic spectrum of sounds resembling whispers and wailing of phantoms. This piece is another example of creative work with archives, following the "undoing" approach, which means deconstructing, collage reassembling, and animating the elements to reinterpret the performative and magical potential of the material.

In the artist's words: “How to tell a story about being from a place you don't actually come from? The lives of both my grandmothers were marked by moving to the other end of their world. And this is how I was born in Warmia. A place that has repeatedly uprooted its history. From the Prussians to Warmians, Germans, and Jews, to the forced resettlement of Ruthenians and Ukrainians in the Vistula operation and repatriation of the Kresowiaks."

In the process of sonifying the photos, Zosia Hołubowska used the following programs: IANNIX and programming their own instruments and effects using M4L and OSC, SuperCollider, and Photosounder. They also used archival songs from Warmia and random field recordings from places with similar flora.

Zosia Hołubowska - sound artist, producer, performer and curator living and working in Vienna, where they are currently completing their doctorate in artistic research at the Academy of Fine Arts. Their research addresses experimental methodology in sound art. Hołubowska creates sound installations, radio dramas, performances and theatre music. They work with ethnomusicological archives, seeking to find moments that you can "queer". Their pieces read, or rather listen to the past and animate the elements of knowledge about magic, demonology and herbal medicine by means of electronic music, new media art, programming and experimental music-composition software. Their works have been presented at, among others, Research Pavilion during the Venice Biennale (2017), MUMOK (Austria) and the Guggenheim Museum (Spain). They cooperate with the BRUT Theatre in Vienna and host a monthly radio show on Radio Kapitał. In 2015 they founded a flying queer synthesizer laboratory Sounds Queer?, where they run workshops on electronic music. Hołubowska is also a member of the Oramics collective.
